Journeyman Plumber
Lead residential and light commercial service calls, handle diagnostics, and complete repairs with strong communication in the field.
Active Massachusetts Journeyman Plumber license required.
Apprentice Plumber
Grow under licensed plumbers while supporting drain, fixture, and piping projects across Quincy and the South Shore.
Registered Massachusetts apprentice, or ready to register. We sign the hours.
Drain Cleaning Technician
Run drain machines, assist with sewer camera work, and document findings clearly for customers and dispatch.
No plumbing license required. Valid driver's license and a clean record required.
Office and Dispatch Support
Help manage customer communications, scheduling windows, follow-ups, and operational handoffs between the website and field team.

Who we are as an employer
Johnson Bros. Plumbing & Drain Cleaning is a family-owned plumbing company based in Quincy, Massachusetts, run by the two brothers whose name is on the truck, with a second office in Abington and a service area of 31 South Shore towns.
Family-owned since 2008. Nate, the founder, started the company as a drain-cleaning business after Quincy High Plumbing School and still leads it. Nick is the Master Plumber; the work is done under Massachusetts Master Plumber license PL #17034-M. In Massachusetts gas fitting is part of the plumbing license, so the same Master Plumber license we work under, PL #17034-M, covers gas line and gas appliance work. Being owner-run matters to the job in a practical way: the person who decides how a job is priced, how a callback is handled, and whether a technician gets the time to do it right is on the phone and in the field, not in another state. What a week looks like
A week at Johnson Bros. is residential service work across the South Shore, mostly diagnosis and repair, with installations and some construction rough-in mixed in, and it changes with the season.
Drains and sewers, every week of the year
Kitchen and bathroom clogs, main-line backups, sewer camera inspections and hydro jetting. The company started as a drain business and it is still the steadiest part of the schedule. A drain technician learns the machines, the cameras, and how to write up what the camera found so the customer and the office both understand it.
Water heaters and tankless units
No-hot-water calls, leaking tanks, replacements, and tankless service and descaling, including Navien and Rinnai error-code work. This is the part of the mix where a plumber who can read a data plate and a fault code moves fastest.
Heating, in season
Boiler no-heat calls, gas heat service, and ductless mini-split work. Heating season is when the phone is busiest and when the gas-fitting side of the license gets used most, so a plumber comfortable with hydronic systems is worth a lot here.
Pipes, leaks, fixtures, and the occasional build
Leak detection, pipe repair and repiping in older housing, toilet and faucet work, sump pumps in storm season, and new construction or remodel rough-in and fixture set when a builder brings us in. The full list is on the services page.
Routes are grouped by office. A Quincy-based tech works the towns the Quincy office dispatches to and an Abington-based tech works the Abington side; which towns belong to which office is listed in the service areas section.
What we look for
We look for the license the role needs, hands-on experience in the work we actually do, and the habit of explaining a job to the customer before doing it.
- License status that matches the role. Each role card above says what it needs. Massachusetts licenses plumbers and gas fitters through the Board of State Examiners, and we do not put unlicensed people on licensed work. For an apprentice, being registered, or ready to register, is the whole requirement; we sign the hours.
- Drain and heating experience, in that order. Drain work is the steadiest part of the week and heating is the busiest season, so time on a drain machine or a sewer camera, and time on boilers and hydronic heat, count for more than anything else on a résumé. Tankless and Navien experience is a plus.
- Clear communication. Our customers get a price before work starts and an explanation of what was found. A tech who can say what is wrong, what it will take, and what it will cost, in plain words, is the tech the reviews are about.
- A clean driving record and clean work. Field roles drive a company vehicle to someone's home. Leaving the work area the way you found it is part of the job, not a courtesy.
