My boiler stopped working in the middle of the night — what should I do?
Call us immediately at (617) 479-9911. No-heat calls are treated as urgent in heating season. Before we arrive, check that the thermostat is calling for heat and that the boiler power switch is on. If you see smoke, leave the area and call 911. If you smell gas: Leave the house first, then call the gas utility or 911 from outside. Do not use switches, phones or anything that sparks inside the building, and do not go looking for the source. Call us afterwards, once it is safe, for the repair.
What does a boiler repair cost?
The $99 service fee sends a licensed technician out to diagnose the problem. Approve the repair on the spot and the fee is not charged at all; decline it and the $99 covers the visit. Once we diagnose the problem, we give you an upfront price before any work starts. Boiler repairs vary widely by the failed part and by whether the system can be repaired safely.
Should I repair or replace my boiler?
It depends on the condition of the boiler, the failed component, and whether the repair solves the larger problem. If the block is sound and the repair is straightforward, repair often makes sense. If the boiler has a leaking block, repeat failures, or major corrosion, replacement is usually the better long-term call. We will tell you directly which side of that line your system is on.
Do you work on both oil and gas boilers?
We focus on natural gas boilers and heating systems and do not service oil-fired boilers. For oil burner service, we can refer you to a specialist — and if you are considering converting from oil to gas, we can walk you through what is involved.
What are the signs a boiler needs immediate service?
Call us if you notice: no heat when thermostat calls for it, visible water pooling around the unit, a boiler that cycles on and off rapidly (short-cycling), banging or kettling sounds, or a yellow/orange pilot flame instead of blue. Any of these can escalate quickly in cold weather.
How long does a boiler repair take?
Most single-component repairs — circulator pump, expansion tank, pressure relief valve, aquastat — are completed in one visit of 1–3 hours. If we need to order a part, we'll tell you upfront and schedule the return visit. Full boiler replacements typically take a full day.
Do you warranty your boiler repairs?
Yes. Our work is warrantied for one year on parts and labor. Equipment carries its manufacturer's warranty on top of that, six years on the tank of a standard water heater for example. If the same issue comes back inside the year, we come back.
